Travel: Hong Kong to Tokyo

March 1, 2011

After a week in Hong Kong, I left for Tokyo.

Tokyo is a city that is obsessed with newness and is always on the forefront of the latest trends. However, it’s also a culturally rich and steeped in tradition which is ever so captivating.

My time in Tokyo, has been fast-paced and stimulating. I was fortunate enough to have wonderful guides whom took the time out of their busy schedule to show me around the city and immersed me into Tokyo’s lifestyle. From Japan’s amazing epicurean delights to outrageously stereotypical but kick-ass karaoke. I do have to admit that the city is not very easy to navigate. Understandably, nothing is in English and I knew that before my arrival. I didn’t expect I would have such a difficult time navigating the metro system. It took me 4 days to get the hang of it. I was only there for 5 days.

Odaiba. The area where my hotel was located. Very newly developed and full of crazy-out-of-this-world architecture. ( above)

Best sushi I’d ever had. (above)

I stood there for 20 minutes trying to figure out where I was, where I was going, which line to take, how much to pay……

Photo above needs no explanation.

Been wanting to visit this store for the longest time. It was better than I ever hoped for. PASS THE BATON (above)

Stumbled onto a vintage arcade. Lovely! (above)

I’d like to give a special thanks to Axiom Magazine. Axiom is a wonderfully new publication based in Japan. They write about what’s happening in young Japan today. They were kind enough to show me around Tokyo. Their articles are very well thought out, smart, studied and well written.
